Timed Oil Pastel/ Kante Chalk Figure Drawing

I found that oil pastel was much faster than pencil and Kante. While this is probably due to me experimenting with doing a smaller area instead of the whole figure, I also found that I made less mistakes. I had originally said that this was because using a non-erasable material pushed me to be more precise, however I struggled with the Kante chalk drawing. Though it is hard to believe that there is such a big difference in drawing with pastel and with the chalk, so my struggles with the chalk might just be linked with a bad day. Overall, these past two drawings have shown me that I like oil pastel more than previously thought.

When comparing oil pastel to pencil, it is hard for me to choose a favourite. To me, they both have pros and cons. With oil pastel, it is smoother, easy to work with and, as said before, it pushes me to be more accurate. However, the mistakes that I did make (most noticeable around the head) are rather distracting. With pencil, it's easier to get finer lines, good for detail, and if necessary it is possible to erase any major mistakes. Because of this, I can't choose a favourite between oil pastel and pencil.
